Many consumers squeezed by rising gas and food prices are putting the canned meat in their shopping carts. Hormel reports its profits are up 14 percent in the most recent quarter.

GAS FOR ONLY $2 !
Sounds to good to be true. Well in a way it is. You can get $2 gas in some parts of NY, but that per 1/2 gallon. A closer look at the pump shows it's $2.05 for a "half gallon." New York State officials are allowing stations with older pumps to sell gas by the half-gallon. The older equipment can't display prices over four bucks a gallon.

A STAR WARS WEDDING
Bramwell Brightey, 33, dressed up as Han Solo to wed Tamsyn Lofts, 29, dressed as Princess Leia. Also in attendance Chewbacca, stormtroopers and Obi Wan Kenobi. Instead of a traditional first dance at their reception, the couple instead opted for a light saber duel. They said: "We both like the Star Wars films but we're not fanatics or geeks. We figured that a lot of our friends liked the films as well and Star Wars is massive everywhere all around the world."

THE LANGUAGE FINE!
NY cabbie's are known for their salty language, but they'd better watch it from now on. Driver Malik Rizwan honked at fellow cabbie Zbigniew Sobczak after Sobszak cut him off, prompting Sobszak to jump out of his cab and use a vulgarity repeatedly. Sobszak called police claiming assault. A judge lwered the charge to verbal harrasment and imposed a $350 fine, but it didn't stop there. The NY taxi commissioner got involved and upped the fine to $1000!

FINALLY! The answers: Why the chicken crossed the road?

BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE!

JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure -- right from Day One! -- that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deservesto cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me.......

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE' of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his 'CURRENT' problems before adding 'NEW' problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road...

ANDERSON COOPER - CNN: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain. Alone.

GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2008, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your check book. Internet Explorer is an integral part of the Chicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cra...#@&&^(C% ......... reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?
AL GORE: I invented the chicken!

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?

Firefighters tried to use water guns to dilute the glue but without success. And the glue was so sticky that their spades and brooms were soon stuck to the ground. Things went from bad to worse when some of the growing crowd of onlookers slipped into the pool of glue and also got stuck. The eventual solution was a special chemical that helped dissolve the mess.

The final 3 perform tonight. The song the final three on ``American Idol'' have all had to tackle in the past week is the national anthem. David Archuleta, David Cook and Syesha Mercado went on hometown visits Friday. They all had to sing the anthem at a sporting event. Meanwhile Daid Archulet's Dad, Jeff has been banned from backstage since causing problems. A source says Jeff Archuleta has caused concern for some time because of backstage involvement, but the thing that pushed producers over the edge was a lyric change. Despite a warning, Jeff Archuleta had insisted on altering the lyrics to ``Stand By Me,'' which David sang last week, by adding a verse from the Sean Kingston song ``Beautiful Girls.'' That meant ``Idol'' had to pay additional fees for the extra song.

STUPID ACTS DEMAND DRASTIC ACTIONS
Ian Taylor returned to his Bloucester, England home to find "the boot" attached to his rear wheel by traffic cops. It seems they saw his rear bumper protruding onto the roadway. So Mr. Taylor did what anyone would do, he grabbed his disc cutter to hack his Ford Fiesta in half when the traffic officers came back to tow away the car. He offered to give them the rear of the vehicle since it was the only part of the car violating the law. Five police cars containing ten officers raced to the scene, along with a six-man fire crew. THE NOT SO JOLLY ROGER
David Waterman is facing prosecution in Britain for flying a Pirate flag. He originally hoisted the jolly roger flag during his daughter's pirate themed brithday party, but left it flying for a few days afterward. A neighbor complained. Under current laws, any flag flying outside a residential property has to have planning permission unless it is a national flag. He says it's now a matter of principle in flying the skull and crossbones; He said: "It's a flag, not hurting anyone, and they're probably spending hundreds of pounds of our cash getting me to take it down.
That could be spent on improving the local area - it's disgraceful."
