IT WAS FAST, BUT WHAT'S THAT IN MPH?
A Judge in Ireland reduced a speeders charge saying that the conditions weren't that bad; "it was relatively safe to have shattered the legal speed limit at the time, citing good weather, light traffic and the road's unusual straightness." Also the judge said the 182 kilometers per hour "sounded" worse than it was if you called in the 112 MPH that it was. He reduced it from driving dangerously to driving carelessly, whic changed the punishment from loss of license to a fine of $1500 instead.

OH YEAH...WELL READ THIS!!!
A Pennsylvania man is facing 90 days probation and a $50 fine if convicted of the disorderly charge he's facing. His offense? While in an argument, Jason Kaminiski bared his chest, flashing his two word expletive tatoo at his neighbor. Police cited him for disorderly conduct.

HOW OLD IS THAT BRATWURST
A historian has discovered the oldest known recipe for German bratwurst, a list of ingredients nearly 600 years old. Historian Hubert Erzmann, found the ancient recipe, inscribed with pen and ink on parchment. Medieval town markets in Germany had committees tasked with monitoring the quality of produce. "The discovery shows that there were already consumer protection laws in the Middle Ages."

PUMPKIN TAX REPRIVE
Pumpkins have won a Halloween reprieve from the tax man. After a backlash from many pumpkin growers who feared a new tax would cut into their profits, Gov. Chet Culver on Wednesday ordered the Department of Revenue "to do the common sense thing" and offer refunds for anyone affected by the "ridiculous" policy. The dept. said pumpkins were used in decoration and not food therefore shouldn't get the tax break from the state they've enjoyed.

DON'T GO NEAR THE RIVER
An Iraqi fisherman caught a 9 foot shark. What's unusual is that it was caught 160 miles from the ocean in a fresh water river. The shark was pulled from the mouth of an irrigation canal that joins the Euphrates River. The Euphrates joins the Tigris River further east to form the Shatt al-Arab waterway which flows south past Basra into the Gulf.

USELESS TRIVIA:
Halloween Holiday Trivia

Orange and black are Halloween colors because orange is associated with the Fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.

Jack o’ lanterns originated in Ireland where people placed candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Samhain holiday.

Pumpkins also come in white, blue and green. Great for unique monster carvings!

Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.

Tootsie Rolls were the first wrapped penny candy in America.

The ancient Celts thought that spirits and ghosts roamed the countryside on Halloween night. They began wearing masks and costumes to avoid being recognized as human.

Halloween candy sales average about 2 billion dollars annually in the United States.

Chocolate candy bars top the list as the most popular candy for trick-or-treaters with Snickers #1.

Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.

Bobbing for apples is thought to have originated from the roman harvest festival that honors Pamona, the goddess of fruit trees.

Black cats were once believed to be witch's familiars who protected their powers.

Signs of a werewolf are a unibrow, hair palms, tattoos, and a long middle finger.

Vampires are mythical beings who defy death by sucking the blood of humans.

In 1962, the Count Dracula Society was founded.

To this day, there are vampire clubs and societies with people claiming to be real vampires.

There really are so-called vampire bats, but they're not from Transylvania. They live in Central and South America and feed on the blood of cattle, horses and birds.

Many people still believe that gargoyles were created by medieval architects and stone carvers to ward off evil spirits.

THEY NEEDED A STUDY FOR THIS?
Young men drive fast because speed is perceived as inherently male, a team of Swiss and German researchers claimed in a study released on Monday. They accelerated when they were played words such as 'muscle' or 'beard' , which were taken to evoke masculine traits , over the car radio in the simulated male environment. In the female environment, words like 'lipstick' or 'pink' were played and they drove about two mph slower. Similar results were found with the simulated neutral environment -- words like 'table' or chair'.

Thirty-two thousand white, heart-bedecked aprons and 85,000 dolls were snatched up by fans in one 30-day period in late 1952.

WHO LET THE BUGS OUT?
The bugs that invaded Cleveland's Jacobs field played a pivotal role in determining the outcome of game two of the Indians/Yankees first round Major League Baseball playoff series Friday. A ton of tiny gnats descened on the pitching mound during Friday night's playoff game between the Yankees and The Indians, stopping play long enough for some bug spray for the pitcher and perhaps a wild pitch. With bugs settling on the back of his neck and flying all around him and Victor Martinez at the plate, Joba Chamberlain threw an inside fastball that got past catcher Jorge Posada allowing the Indians to tie the game.

NEW MEANING FOR JARHEAD
Officer James Kelleton in CArrol Township, Michigan wasn't about to put himself or fellow officers at risk. Especially when a skunk is involved. A sknuk with some T. Marzetti's salad dressing stuck on it's head. SO the officer did what any enterprising cop would do. Broke out the BB gun and shot the jar from about 40 feet thereby not risking a spraying by the curious skunk. The shots cracked and shattered the jar, leaving a glass collar around the skunk's neck. With its head free, the skunk ran off. The makers of T. Marzetti's salad dressing are sending the officer coupons good for free dressing as a reward.

AudioProsPrep AUDIO-Fighting Nuns!

Remember this story from earlier in prep?

THE NOT SO SAINTLY NUNS
A Bari, Italy convent is being shut down after the 3 remaining nuns couldn't get along, even coming to blows in their disagreements. Archbishop Giovanni Battista Pichierri tried to reconcile the nuns but finally decided in late August that they had "clearly lost their religious vocation" and asked the Vatican for permission to close the convent.

****WE HAVE AUDIO It's a 15 second spoof of WWE except we have nuns involved.****

T-SHIRTS OVER THE LIMIT?
The seniors at New Hampshire's Oyster River High School printed shirts that say ``08 Pushing the Limit'' on the back. The problem is that point-08 is the state's legal blood alcohol limit. And some think the shirts promote underage drinking. There's even a little paw print next the numbers that looks like a decimal point. School officials say they're investigating who designed and approved the shirts. The shirts haven't been banned, but administrators are urging parents not to let their kids wear the T's to school.

ANOTHER RECORD FALLS
This time i's stone skippin'. Russell "Rock Bottom" Byars just set a new world record for skipping a stone across water. His rock bounced an incredible 51 times and traveled some 250 feet. Guiness watched the film and certified the feat, beating the old record of a measly 40 skips.

MUI-MOWING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
West Virginia officers pursued a male drunken driving suspect who tried to outrun them on a riding mower. According to authorities, Michael Ginevan was driving his mower on a road when deputies tried to pull him over. Court courts show one deputy stopped his cruiser, chased on foot and finally hauled Ginevan off the mower. Authorities say he had a case of beer strapped to the machine. All kinds of charges are pending.

JUST STEP ON 'EM!
Stinging red ants have invaded a Buddhist temple in the northern state of Penang, Malaysia, and the monks, who are bound in faith to non-violence, don't know how to get rid of them. Boon Keng, the temple's chief monk, says if you try to flick or blow the ants off, they bite to hold on. The monks don't know what to do because they must "respect other living things." One worshipper at the temple was bitten so badly he had to go to the hospital. An attempt to vacuum the ants up and then free them in the forest didn't make much of a difference. "We haven't found a solution yet."

USELESS TRIVIA:

NAPPERDOODLE TIME
Taking a power nap is a good health benefit, according to a 2007 study which showed that napping for 30 minutes at least three times a week helped reduce the chance of dying from heart disease by 37 percent. And napping can also make you more efficient at work. Of course, don't take your power nap at work!!

HOW'D RAISINS COME ABOUT?
In 1873, a freak hot spell withered the grapes on the vine. One enterprising San Francisco grocer advertised these shriveled grapes as "Peruvian Delicacies" and the rest is history. California is now the world's leading producer of raisins.

WHERE'D THE WORD CRAYOLA COME FROM?
The name "Crayola" is a combination of the French word for chalk ("craie") and "ola" from the "oleanginous," which means "oily. Since its inception in 1903, the Crayola brand has grown into one of the most respected and recognizable brands in the consumer marketplace. Currently the company makes more than 120 different crayon colors.

Apple-iPhone Lawsuit
A New York woman is upset that Apple slashed the price of it's I-Phone so soon after releasing it. So much so that she's taking them to court alleging discrimination. According to the lawsuit, the price reduction injured early purchasers because they cannot resell the product for the same profit as those who bought the cell phone following the price cut.

WHAT YA GOT THERE?
Ed Long was looking for ducks, he thought he was shooting at a snapping turtle, but got a surprise when he pulled his trophy from the Milwaukee River: a 4 foot long alligator. "At first, I thought it was a turtle tail," he said. "Then it turned and came back at me. I saw the eyes come out of the water, but my brain didn't click. This is Wisconsin. There's not supposed to be gators in Wisconsin."

WEDDING COINCIDENCE NOTE
OK, try to keep up on this one. Melody and Matt get married on a beach on Lake Michigan. They write up their vows, put them in a bottle and toss the message in the bottle in the lake. The bottle floated across the Great Lake from Wisconsin to Michigan. Enter, couple number two, Fred and Lynette Dubendorf who found the message in a bottle buried in the sand by the water's edge. They wrote this letter to Melody and Matt: "We thought you would want to know where your message in a bottle ended up! We picked it up on the beach between Pentwater and Silver Lake on Sept. 19. An ironic note, we were also married on the beach! Here in Michigan by Pentwater. Even more ironic, it was on August 18, 1979. We wish you both the best of luck in your new lives together." Did you get that part about them sharing the SAME WEDDING DATE?!
