IT WAS FAST, BUT WHAT'S THAT IN MPH?
A Judge in Ireland reduced a speeders charge saying that the conditions weren't that bad; "it was relatively safe to have shattered the legal speed limit at the time, citing good weather, light traffic and the road's unusual straightness." Also the judge said the 182 kilometers per hour "sounded" worse than it was if you called in the 112 MPH that it was. He reduced it from driving dangerously to driving carelessly, whic changed the punishment from loss of license to a fine of $1500 instead.

OH YEAH...WELL READ THIS!!!
A Pennsylvania man is facing 90 days probation and a $50 fine if convicted of the disorderly charge he's facing. His offense? While in an argument, Jason Kaminiski bared his chest, flashing his two word expletive tatoo at his neighbor. Police cited him for disorderly conduct.

HOW OLD IS THAT BRATWURST
A historian has discovered the oldest known recipe for German bratwurst, a list of ingredients nearly 600 years old. Historian Hubert Erzmann, found the ancient recipe, inscribed with pen and ink on parchment. Medieval town markets in Germany had committees tasked with monitoring the quality of produce. "The discovery shows that there were already consumer protection laws in the Middle Ages."

PUMPKIN TAX REPRIVE
Pumpkins have won a Halloween reprieve from the tax man. After a backlash from many pumpkin growers who feared a new tax would cut into their profits, Gov. Chet Culver on Wednesday ordered the Department of Revenue "to do the common sense thing" and offer refunds for anyone affected by the "ridiculous" policy. The dept. said pumpkins were used in decoration and not food therefore shouldn't get the tax break from the state they've enjoyed.

DON'T GO NEAR THE RIVER
An Iraqi fisherman caught a 9 foot shark. What's unusual is that it was caught 160 miles from the ocean in a fresh water river. The shark was pulled from the mouth of an irrigation canal that joins the Euphrates River. The Euphrates joins the Tigris River further east to form the Shatt al-Arab waterway which flows south past Basra into the Gulf.

USELESS TRIVIA:
Halloween Holiday Trivia

Orange and black are Halloween colors because orange is associated with the Fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.

Jack o’ lanterns originated in Ireland where people placed candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Samhain holiday.

Pumpkins also come in white, blue and green. Great for unique monster carvings!

Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.

Tootsie Rolls were the first wrapped penny candy in America.

The ancient Celts thought that spirits and ghosts roamed the countryside on Halloween night. They began wearing masks and costumes to avoid being recognized as human.

Halloween candy sales average about 2 billion dollars annually in the United States.

Chocolate candy bars top the list as the most popular candy for trick-or-treaters with Snickers #1.

Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.

Bobbing for apples is thought to have originated from the roman harvest festival that honors Pamona, the goddess of fruit trees.

Black cats were once believed to be witch's familiars who protected their powers.

Signs of a werewolf are a unibrow, hair palms, tattoos, and a long middle finger.

Vampires are mythical beings who defy death by sucking the blood of humans.

In 1962, the Count Dracula Society was founded.

To this day, there are vampire clubs and societies with people claiming to be real vampires.

There really are so-called vampire bats, but they're not from Transylvania. They live in Central and South America and feed on the blood of cattle, horses and birds.

Many people still believe that gargoyles were created by medieval architects and stone carvers to ward off evil spirits.

THEY NEEDED A STUDY FOR THIS?
Young men drive fast because speed is perceived as inherently male, a team of Swiss and German researchers claimed in a study released on Monday. They accelerated when they were played words such as 'muscle' or 'beard' , which were taken to evoke masculine traits , over the car radio in the simulated male environment. In the female environment, words like 'lipstick' or 'pink' were played and they drove about two mph slower. Similar results were found with the simulated neutral environment -- words like 'table' or chair'.
